Stunning gilded mahogany medallion depicting the "Lamb of God" from the Gospel of John. Cut from an aged mahogany tree limb, roughly 4 1/2" in diameter and 3/4" thick. Hand gilded with genuine 23k gold leaf with an overall satin finish (this is not a "bright" burnished leaf finish).

The inscription captures the beautiful testimony of John the Baptist publicly recognizing the divinity of Christ: "The next day, John saw Jesus coming to him, and he saith: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who taketh away the sin of the world." (John 1:29)

Reverse is inscribed with the symbol of John the Evangelist, the author of the fourth gospel account symbolized by an eagle – a figure of the sky, and believed by Christian scholars to be able to look straight into the sun.

Black wrought metal display stand shown is included!
