Hand carved reading stand inscribed with the early Christian symbol of two fish and anchor that marked a tomb in early Rome. The image and edges are finished in gold, as well as a hole left by a small branch.

The fish or ICHTHUS symbol helped Christians identify one another as believers, and also represents both Jesus and his followers. Jesus told Peter, "I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:19). The anchor is a symbol of the hope in Christ beyond this life.

The stand measures L 9.5" X D 5.5" X H 3" and is intended to enhance private prayer. Designed to fit missals, Liturgy of the Hours and other small/medium prayer books. Cut from a beautiful, aged mahogany log and gilded with genuine 23k gold leaf. Hand rubbed Tung oil finish.
